Winter Wedding Tips

Planning a winter wonderland wedding? Nothing screams romantic more than a magical snowy backdrop for your special day. But there are some tricks and tips to take on board before proceeding to ensure your day goes as smoothly as possible.

Firstly, it’s important to take into consideration how the weather will affect the venue and decorations. This is where you can really transform your reception with a little help of some fairy lights, candles and perhaps even a fireplace to add that cosy touch. Bear in mind with the winters season bringing in the darker evenings, it’s definitely a good idea to take a drive to your venue at night to visualise how it will be and for the practical side of making it visible and easy to locate for all your guests!

Something you should definitely take into consideration beforehand is the travel time for your guests. Depending on the roads and if it’s icey, perhaps consider putting a notice out there to ensure all are aware and allow extra travel time to avoid late comers. It may also be a timesaver and more convenient if you have the ability of having the same venue for both your ceremony and reception. This can cut out a lot of trouble and keep the day more organised and controlled.

One for the ladies, don’t neglect looking after your skin and especially your face for the big day! The colder season means unfortunately drier skin and chapped lips. Remember to do your research and find a moisturiser and lip balm that works for you and allow time to do a trial run before the big day to avoid any unwanted surprises or reactions.

Another tip is thinking about adding some layers and accessories on the day. This is the perfect time of year to make your wedding unique by adding in these extra features. This can be from umbrellas to hats to gloves! All very practical pieces in keeping you dry and warm but also a nice way of making your day yours and different to the rest with how you personalise it.

Here’s where you can have some fun with the colour scheme ideas – of course you can have any colour you desire any time of the year, however the richer and deeper forest greens and beautiful deep berry colours make for some beautiful pictures with a winter setting. Another idea is to opt for a sparkley number as under the lights the sparkles will catch which looks very eye catching.

Winter wedding favours is where you can get creative and consider all things people love when we enter the cooler season. A warming entry drink like a mulled wine could be just the greeting. Blankets can be a nice touch towards the end of the night, especially if you have an outside space you can utilise.

It’s always good to consider your send off too and what better way on a dark night then to get the sparklers out – I can guarantee you, you will get some incredible photos out of this to fondly look back on.

Lastly, always plan an alternative! When organising around such unpredictable weather conditions, it’s important to be aware of what could go wrong and ensure you always have a back up if that does become an eventuality.
